Description:
Ah ha! Yeah! I knew that the title of this blog would catch your attention. I know what you are thinking but it is not exactly what you think. However, once you realize the thought that I'm trying to convey, maybe you will think twice before you......
Okay, here is the deal. I posed a question to the youth of my church. I asked them what does certain phrases that they use mean. For example(s), It is what it is, dont get it twisted, junk, kick rocks. etc. By the way, All but one of them could tell me what they meant and why they use those terms. However, one of the most famous phrases is, I'm just doing me" Hmmmm....doing me.
In essence, to "do me" is to fulfill all the desires and pleasures as you will. To "do me" is to be grown and sexy without any limitations. To "do me" is to be game for anything without anybody telling me what to do because why? "I'm just doing me". To do me is to go back to a place of familarity and comfort and delve into a pool of mischief. To do me is to take back control of your life and handle your own business all the while enyoing the pleasures of "doing me".
As doing me relates to church, I see people come and go out of the church. They are faithful to the church services and mid week services. Afterwhile, you grow attached to them. It's like you are almost spoiled by their presence but afterwhile they drop off. When I see this behavior I go after them and ask them a simple question, "how are you"? The answer is always, "I'm fine, just doing me".
The thing is that I can't even say it's them but we all are guilty of "doing me". How often do we go to church expecting God to move or to fix situations and it seems like nothing changes. We continue to press our way to the church services but inside we have put a time frame on God. Saying, "if he does'nt answer by a certain time I'm just going to go my way and do me for a minute". Doing me feels good dont it? Doing me makes you feel like you are in control? Doing me can be addictive? Oh yeah, you can get whipped by doing me all the time. (you see where your mind went that fast, stay with me I'm bringing it home)
Whipped as in whom the Lord loves he chastens. Whipped as in it is time to get out of me and get back in line with God. We are so into making love to ourselves that we fail to make love to Him. If we are so into making love to ourselves and pleasing ourselves where is the intimacy between us and God? How long will we continue to walk in the stubborness of our own wills because we get tired of waiting on God?
When will we stop "doing me" and do him. To do him is to reap blessings, peace, tranquility, joy, favor, destiny , relationship, intimacy, true friendship, all that you can ever imagine. If you do him. He will give you what is due to you; for in due season you shall reap a harvest of blessings if you faint not.
